My two friends and i are all 18 yrs old and wanting to move into a place of our own. Our only income would be from the two part time jobs me and my friend have. We only make about $150-$250 a paycheck maybe a little less. My third friend will find a part time job to help us pay the rent. Do you think we qualify for low rent, Section 8 or Hud and why?

Thanks!

  1. bad news: You can apply for section 8..based on your income you would qualify BUT they give preferences to 1. elderly 2. disabled females 3. single females with children 4. disabled males  IF you are not in any of those categories, you will have a wait of as long as 10-15 years depending on where you are at... A lof of places are not even taking apps if you don't fit in one of the top 4 categories... I would not expect help from Sect. 8.. All over the US, the waiting list is INCREDIBLY long..you would not believe how long..I live in AR and applied for CA and CA told me it would be at least 10 years and I am disabled.  I would make other plans..

I know that's not what you wanted to hear but that's how it goes.. You may be able to get food stamps or something like that but Sect 8.. YEARS.. you would be out of college, have a job and probably have a house bought before your name came to the top  but you can apply..you never know...but usually after 1 year , the applications are invalid and have to be redone so.. your choice.
