How do we stop graffitti/tagging?

i am a passionately graffiti/tagger hater.

graffiti/tagging is like plague/cancer to our society. it destroys neighborhood and discourage business.

here are my proposals and i want to hear yours:

1. felony instead of misdemeanor - no more slap on the wrist punishment. we should get serious about the convicted offenders. punishment should be a combination of fine, long period of communitey service, garnish wage. repeat offenders possible jail time.

2. confiscate vehicle - when a car is used as the tool of crime, suspend license

3. Parants punished for the juvenal's crime. Fine and community service

4. Get everybody involved - no more business as usual or accept ugly tagging/graffiti as part of the life! call police when you see a graffiti in progress (there's a reward) and call your local graffiti removal hotline to cover the graffiti/tag immediately.

lastly, please do not call them "graffiti artist" they are criminals, not artists!

personally i don't care too much - but my property has never been vandalized

and some of it looks nice on highway overpasses - the outright vandalism on private property does p**s me off though. I believe there are treatments you can put on a wall to simply wash away spray paint with water or light solvents.

Or perhaps removing a finger for each infraction. Tagging has invaded my nice neighborhood lately, and it is disgusting.

not all graffitti is bad...ive seen lots of great artwork and designs from them in the city that ppl have done...sure their are the ones that suck but their are some beauty's...i say leave them on..it doesnt affect me

I've watched the ongoing battle between taggers and the owner of a block wall in our neighborhood for years now. It's ridiculous. Neither side allows the other more than a day or two of respite. And NEITHER side will back down.

I think they should just stake the place out and finish the war with a bullet. That seems to be the answer to every OTHER problem around here...

And no, I DON'T care whether taggers are rich or poor. They have no respect for others, they deserve no respect for themselves.

I don't want to stop it. Its art. Just because you don't like it why should the world bend to your taste? People have been tagging for millions of years. Frankly, there are more serious crimes taking place everyday, and I think that you should stop all the hating and try to feel the love. Funnily enough, today I am actually looking for a tagger to do a bit of art for me.....

   Next you will want to jail left handed people and 'gingers'.

  If this is all you have got to moan about then you have got it made. People that moan about things like this are obviously not happy unless they are miserable. There are BILLIONS of people around the planet who would be happy if this was their only problem....... put things into perspective and move on.

This'll only help out the city more...figuring most of the people who do grafitti are from upper class neighborhoods.  Great, just garnish those wages made at daddy's business, make rich daddy give wages that'll go for schools/police/ government welfare programs.
