They say now that [U.S.A.] Congress' approval rating is now 11 %. I was just wondering how to vote on these approval ratings.

Do they take place at specific sites around the country? Is it online? No one ever asked us :), so I wanted to know how they collect this information.

  1. Generally, a random sample of telephone numbers are selected by some organization.  The organization then calls those numbers and speaks with the person on the other end.  They ask the person if they approve or disapprove of congress.  If 100 people are surveyed and 11 of those 100 approve, the approval rating is 11%.

They do not ask each person what approval rating would you give congress.  It's a simple yes I approve or no I don't approve question.
