How do winds affect the insulating value of snow?

I know that after a wind, many projections break from snow crystals. But I'm not sure how it affects insulating value.

  1. Unless the snow is packed so lightly that the wind can blow right through it, or the wind blows so hard that it destroys the snow structure, or the snow melts, its insulating properties remain constant.
