  1. I'm not sure they do hook onto the world.

What they do is hook onto associations in our minds. We use those two ways:

    (1) We often process our own thoughts into words, which allows us to express them to others, or to note them down for reconsideration later (basically, communicating with our future selves), or to express ideas in our minds in a form which we know how to relate to other ideas similarly expressed.

    (2) We use them to communicate, which is basically an exercise in using a set of stimuli (the words) and our own experience about how those stimuli normally influence the appearance of ideas in our minds, all for the purpose of attempting to stimulate someone else's mind in hopes of getting them to generate very similar or closely related ideas in their own minds.

(I see words as secondary, jury-rigged communications devices, not particularly precise except in a few carefully circumscribed contexts, such as mathematics. This puts me at odds with Platonic notions, of course.)

    A moment later:

It occurs to me that I haven't quite answered your question yet, so here's a try: Words hook into our minds, and our minds are connected by senses and by our actions to the world. So words hook onto the world indirectly; WE do it!

  2. Light infuses Word.

    Light of Soul speaks Truth.

    Soul-individuation:  Spirit of Truth.

Supervenient gesture qua "word" is +/- function.

More than "Yea" and "Nay" (Word) is supervenient, Energy-veiling, e-veiling, eviling.

  3. I think words play a big part in life. They connect your thoughts to your heart and make communication easier. Without words, it would be difficult to understand what people think and feel, for example, you could love someone with all your heart, but if you don't express this to them, they will never know.
