Let me start off by saying I am not the world's greatest driver and it took me a few years to get my license. I was following a co-worker to client's house and as I was getting off the highway I turned to wide hit some gravel thought it was water I started to skid I lost control of the vehicle as the stiring wheel locked up on my and steam came from the inside of vehicle before I hit the guard rail. I do not have that much experice driving on highways but this has never happened to me before. I need my car for driving but my confidence has been shot. Only thing bruised are my ego and my car. To make matters worst it was my first day on the job. My family wants me to wait a while drive gradually and after 3 months get back on the highways. Employment wise I don not think this is relastic. Occassionally I will get flash backs and my family tells me I have beaten myself to much about this accident

  1. It's like the old saying goes, when you fall off a horse, you gotta get right back on. The more you drive, the more your confidence will increase.

  2. If you are feeling anxious about driving again, just take a short drive when it's not busy. You'll eventually get yourself back to normal, and you will have that nasty experience to remind you that whenever you drive, you need full attention to the task.

You may also wish to consult a Driving Instructor and explain what happened and get some ideas on how you could have prevented it.

When you follow someone, you are paying more attention to whom you are following. I've done it too. You are paying attention to who is ahead of you, where they are going and it causes you to become distracted.

    You'll be fine..................carry on Grasshopper!

    THINK AND DRIVE

    THINK AND LIVE

  3. People who have been involved in a car crash will look back and see what took place and how it could easily have cost them their lives.

But they can go further with this line of thought and end up blaming themselves for everything that happened.

They may start to dissect every aspect of the car crash and wish they had left work 10 minutes later, they had not taken a shortcut home, and as such they do not deserve to drive again.

Such thinking can destroy a person's confidence and it is counter productive to think this way.

It will not enable a person to get behind the wheel of the car again. It is necessary to assess what went wrong and if you had a part to play in the car crash.

But try not to take it to the extreme of never wanting to drive again.

Even if you were partly to blame for the car crash, that does not mean you are a bad driver and that you do not deserve to drive again.

Learn from what went wrong and be determined to avoid making the same mistakes again.

Many drivers who have been involved in a car crash are able to do just that and move on from the events that took place.

  4. Well to be honest that is a very minor thing. You didn't really endanger anyone...my suggestion is don't get on the highway before you're 100% confident on the regular roads. Practise taking turns at different speeds and at different approach angles, so that you will know from experience how to recover from a bad approach. Oh and of course ALWAYS stay calm and breathe. The worst thing you can do is get nervous or panic. That's when you make yourself get into accidents. You must be relaxed, at ease, but alert.

This will help you in no time.
