  1. It's a little hard to do this on the computer, but try looking first at the last word in the name- that's usually the best place to start. That will help you draw the skeleton then add the extra pieces in.

    a. 2-iodopropane      CH3-CHI-CH3

    b. CH3-OH

    etc. Good luck!

  2. You must not be doing the line drawings first.  If you know what each name means (which if you are in organic, you should..and if you don't you're going to fail) then the line drawings are a piece of cake.  My advice, if you're having trouble with this, rethink the class before drop/add is over.

    For instance

    a.  propane means there are 3 carbon atoms in the chain with no double bonds and 2-iodo means that the I is on the second carbon .  So, CH3-CHI-CH3 or (CH3)2CHI

    b. the meth means 1 carbon atom and the -ol means it's an alcohol.  So, CH3OH

    etc....

Also, you can always search the names if you are unsure and wikipedia usually has the name, structure, picture, uses, hazards, etc.

  3. a) CH3CHICH3

    b) CH3OH

    c) CBr3CHBrCH2CH3

    d) CH3C(CH3)CHCH2CH3

    e) CH3CO2H

    f) CH3CH2CH2CCC(CH3)2CH3

  4. A.  CH3CHICH3

    B.  CBr3CHBrCH2CH3

    C.  CH3C(CH3)CH2CH2CH3

    D.  CH3COOH

    E.  CH3CH2CCCH2C(CH3)(CH3)CH3
