I heard many references to playing with your baby but not sure how to go about it? I talk to to her and interact with her using soft voices and engage her attention. But I'm not sure what people mean by the term "play"?

  1. you dont.... thats way too young, you feed, change and talk to them, you really cant play. they cant see very well, they dont even know they have hands yet, and are too fragile to do anything....  you can play more as they get to 6 months when they are bigger, stronger, and can grasp concepts better

  2. The best toy for a 6week old bub is your face. She can see best at about 20cm so hold her close, coo, talk, sing to her. Be animated and pull face...but not too over the top.

Also.. bubs of this age see contrast best so showing her some black and white pictures (high contrast not grey scale) even just some thick black lines on a peice of white paper. Just remember that her attention span is short so if she starts crying it does not mean that she is not enjoying it... she is just ready for another activity (or milk or sleep... they can become overstimulated very easily at this age)

  3. Just talk to her...You can use different voices, like when you want to sound excited or happy...Smile at her, ect.  When she gets older you can play with actual toys, like rattles, toys that light up/make noise...You can do that now because she will still look at the items, altough at this age she isn't going to laugh or get real excited.  Mostly just talk to her, sing to her.

  4. you're doing what you need to, just talking and interacting with her. also if you read to her she will probably like it. i've been doing that with my son since he was about a month old and now he's 4 1/2 months. they just love hearing your voice, it comforts them.

  5. try putting up a colourful toy which the baby watches she will move the eyes as you move the toy away in a different direction........this tires out the baby and is the first step in socialising

  6. you can read to your baby, or just hold up some of her toys that rattle and shake them... stuff like that..

and even thou they cant grasp properly or anything they still have some  vision so you can hold things up.. and have the toy bear or something give them kisses.. as lonmg as it doenst scare the kid lol

  7. It's excatly what you are doing already. Talking, showing her soft toys, reading to her etc. At that age they are taking everything in so as long as you don't over stimulate her, she'll be fine.

  8. u really dont need any previous knowledge or expertise or even equipments to play with yr baby.jsut looking at him with playful naughty eyes, making sweet cooing sounds, whistling, singing, running yr fingers softly on his bare or even clothed body (like tickling but not actual tickling),dangling yr hair or fingers on his face etc etc is the sort of play yr baby will enjoy and get boded to u. babies this young hav no liking for toys, just u,yr body,yr gaze and yr voice.
