Is it based on the number of sets you win or the number of games you win?

  1. it is on the sets you win

ladies need to win 2 and men 3

  2. winning sets

  3. In a lot of major slams, women play best two out of three sets. So if one woman wins two sets in a row, a third is not played. But if it is tied one set to one set, then the third is played. Men play best out of five sets, so the first one to win three sets wins. In a set, you win by playing the first person to win six games, but you have to win by at least two games.

  4. Each game must be won by two points (scored 15, 30, 40, game. If there's a tie at/above 40, it's "deuce" and if one is ahead by a point after that point, it's "advantage."

To win a set, one must win two more games than his opponent. In the old days, this led to absurdly long sets, so most people have gone to some form of tie-breaker system at this point.

Most matches are the best two of three, though some men's matches are best three of five.

It's quite possible to lose the first set 6-0 and win the next two 6-4, 6-4, at which point you will have won twelve games and lost fourteen, but you've won the match, because it's the number of sets you've won that matters.

  5. you win games to win sets and you have to win the sets to win the match

  6. You have to win 6 games (by 2), to win a set.  And in most professional womens matches you have to win 2 out of 3 sets to win the match.

In mens you have to win 3 out of 5 sets to win the match.

BTW it goes, 15, 30, 40, (Duece) Game
