  1. get a common denominitor. multiply the first term by (x-1)/(x-1).  then multiply the second term by (x+2)/(x+2).

So, the common denominator is (x+2)(x-1)

then, add the numerators together, and simplify

    the answer is:

    9x+11

    -----------

    (x+2)(x-1)
