I have a 2 by 3 grid C&C cage and I was wondering if anyone had a link or instructions of how to add a new level. Also, what is the best material to use for the ramp?

PS: I will be using this for my guinea pig.

  1. Have you checked the http://www.guineapigcages.com/ site? There are many photos showing different style cages. While they don't give specific instructions on how to put them together, you would use the same basic format as you did to build the original bottom structure.

A single grid, bent into and "L" shape, and secured with nylon zip ties can be used for a ramp. You'll need to cover the holes in the grid with a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet to keep your piggie from injuring his feet/legs while climbing on the ramp.

    Good luck!

  2. Try taking your stuff to petco or petsmart and they will help you put it together and give you tips. Hope I helped!!!

  3. Adding a new level is very easy. The grids are fairly easy to put together. So just snap the grid into place. I also have a 2x3, I'll tell you how my second level is. It's just two grids over one end of the cage with grids placed around the sides as walls. I've got a total of 5 grids for walls, leaving just one grid space for them to get into. I also put two on top of the walls to make a ceiling, I use this space as a shelf to hold things like food, bedding, and hay. Make sure you zip tie the second level together well, it needs to be sturdy. The floor is just another piece of coroplast, cut just like the bottom except wall on only three sides.

The ramp is also fairly easy to make. You don't want it to be too steep, so it does end up taking up quite a bit of cage. But don't worry, they use underneath as a hideout. Mine is two grids zip tied together, one square of the grids are overlapping. This leaves enough room for them to actually get in front of the ramp.  To keep it stable I added a little attachment underneath. It's a little separator that came with my grid kit, so it's meant for the grids and fits perfectly. I added it underneath so it's level with the ground, it keeps the ramp from moving when they walk on it. For on the ramp I just have a piece of hard rubber that was laying around. This worked better than going out and  buying something, but not everyone has such a thing laying around their house. The best thing is a low pile mat. Like you would buy for your front door. It gives them something to grip, doesn't hurt their feet, and they can't get stuck in the low carpet. Just cut it to size and put it on. The rubber backing on carpets like this is perfect, it grips to the grid so it doesn't slip.

It may take your pigs a while to figure out the ramp and get used to it. I actually had to place mine on the second floor so they could understand it. Give them time, they'll love it.
