Zune reads mp4, wmv, so you must convert your dvd video to those formats, I always use aimersoft zune convertr suite, it can easily convert dvd video to zune with high quality, that's really nice, you can free download it  from its official site:

After conversion finished. Run Zune software, connect your Zune device to computer via USB cable, then the Zune software will detect your Zune player. Drag the converted video and picture to Zune software and click “Start to sync”, then your video and picture will be transferred to Zune. The DVD has to be put in Wav format..so you will need a third party software. You might have it on your computer already, If not magic dvd ripper works. you can go to this site and get a free trail. download it, set it to the ipod setting (this is mp4 which the zune software understands), You can open the software like 5 times without a serial number but it's better than nothing and alot of them only give you 5 minutes. then convert, and add into your library and your set to go. http://www.magicdvdripper.com/

Use a program called Handbrake to convert the DVD to a format that the Zune can sync.
