How do you adjust park brake on a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis? Dealer says you have to buy new cables.?

The pedal goes all way to floor and brakes wont hold.The cables are free and working.

Go to an auto parts store and ask if they have a "butterfly"; it is connected to the brake cable under the car and you can use it to adjust the slack out of the cable. Easy installation/use.

It appears that they started using an automatic adjustment setup by the '94 models. If they won't hold, it probably is because the cables are stretched.
