  1. Remove the seat to get at the adjuster.

Remove the nut at the rear of the passenger seat and remove the seat.

Remove the bolt at the rear of the riders seat and remove the seat.

You might have to remove the seat strap.

Turn the spring adjuster with a spanner wrench - should be in the tool kit.

  2. I had an 1100 V Star and the monoshock is under the seat. Remove the seats and then the protective flap that covers the top of the frame (you'll see this when the seats off). Some people remove the battery and the box to have better access as well. The next part is to use the special wrench in your tool kit that came with your bike. You'll have to reach in and between the rear suspension frame and rear wheel to access putting the clamp wrench into place around the shock. The shock has markings or may have different points depending on your model year. It's best you go on line at the V-Star website and access the pdf files Yamaha provides for the exact details. Basically you use the wrench to turn the shock to the desired level you desire. Of course, you don't have to disassemble anything else but it's good to have someone spot for you and have long arms to reach in this rather tight area to make the turns.... I am assuming that there is not a whole lot of difference between the 650 and 1100....
