How do you adopt a child in the UK?

Question

I've heard its pretty hard being approved to adopt, but how is it you get to adopt at all? is there a special list your name goes down on... or do i have to make a few calls?

if anybody knows any information about getting it do adoption please tell me.

its done through social services

it is really hard to adopt you have to be worthy to adopt lots of checks etc.

it took my friend 2 years to apply, get aproval, get a child, and finish n file all the paper work.

But for the child they have got now they would have done it all again

at this moment in time you can have my two just fetch them back any time after the age of 21

You go to social services and apply, but it is difficult and takes a long time. I think it would probably be easier to foster first

it is very hard and takes years, try this website but maybe you should try and adopt abroad,there is several reasons why everyone is doing it, like saving (literally)someones life

It is hard, my cousin and her husband have just been turned down.  

They are model adoptive parents, squeaky clean backgrounds, both professionals with excellent salaries, a lovely home etc so Heaven knows why they were turned down - they were told they could only adopt an older child or one with disabilities.  As my cousin is 40 and has never had a child of her own she's too nervous to be thrown in at the deep end like this.

As I understand it, you have to go through a rigourous vetting process and also attend lots of courses.  If you are successful and are approved, your name is placed on a waiting list - contrary to popular belief, there are not loads of children waiting to be adopted these days!!

You can either go through social services, or through various specialist adoption agencies - some religions have their own adoption services, such as the Catholic adoption agency.
