  1. You can not adopt any one over the age of 18 it is called power of attorney is what you need.


  2. They are considered an adult so you can not "legally adopt". However, devloping a family relationship is a different question and probably more important.

  3. Yes. You can legally adopt a consenting adult in most states. Adult adoptions are free in most cases. There are some states which have limitations on adult adoptions such as the person must be mentally challenged or over a certain age.

    Adult adoptions are the same as child adoptions in that incest laws, immigrations laws and inheritance laws will apply.

  4. Mamakate is correct...you can adopt an adult. Though laws may vary from one state to another.

    AND the adoptee must be under the age of 25 and a full time student to be eligible for health insurance benefits &/or be claimed as a "dependent" on your taxes.  

    Check with your insurance provider. Some providers may cut off benefits before the age of 24.  

    So, if the person is 23, they won't get much benefit. Except, of course, any inheritance you might provide.
