  1. As a Level 7 TOP CONTRIBUTOR in Genealogy, I can tell you this:
if you already have a Yahoo account, just go to Yahoo Answers, and pick out a category--such as Arts and Humanities, Computers and Internet, Education, Pets, Health, etc. and pick out one of the subcategories (like Arts and Humanities has subcategories in Genealogy, Performing Arts, Books and Authors, Theater Arts, etc. In Education and Reference, there is a subcategory in Trivia, and even Words/Wordplay). Read through the questions and select one you feel you might be able to answer, provide the sources you use (even your opinion or a guess counts), check out your answer first by editing it if necessary and then submit it. It MUST follow Yahoo's guidelines, however--it's best you read these too, just follow the link shown--against soliciting for stores (for example, if someone wants to know where his great grandfather was born, don't say something like "I don't know that, but you can buy Ugg boots cheap at so-and-so store for less than $50."), copying another's answer just to get points, swearing, abuse, etc.If you copy/paste an answer from a source, put it in QUOTES so people won't say you plagiarized the answer from an expert (that's why there is a Sources area below the answer box). If too many people give you a "thumbs down" for inappropriate answers --like if it has absolutely nothing to do with the question asked--it will most likely be deleted by Yahoo. If too many of your answers are deleted, then you will not be allowed to answer any more, in any category. Don't give what I call "stupid, texting answers" like "idk; wtf", etc because that will usually get a thumbs down. If you want to gain serious points (10 for best answer from either the asker or voters, with you getting an email notice of such from Yahoo), give serious answers. Just for answering a question earns 2 points.
On the upside, however, YA users may like your answers, how you treat people, etc, and want to become one of your contacts (their questions are forwarded directly to you) or--better yet--a fan of yours. You then have the option to accept their request or deny it via an email from Yahoo.
Come on over. It is really fun sometimes to see the questions asked.
