How do you apply for Permanent Resident in Canada?

Someone I know is coming here in Canada as a tourist and he wants to apply as a Permanent Resident, but he doesn't know how and neither do I.

    He will have to apply to immigrate and be granted permanent resident status. I hope he doesn't think he can just show up here, apply for PR status and be granted it right away. Immigrating to Canada takes a long time.


  2. FIRST and MOST important RULE:

    You can NOT apply from inside CANADA.

    All applications must be filed at the nearest, Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in the country of residence. Some consulates do not process applications and they must be done at the respective Embassy.

    When applying there are different categories:

    Family (children & parents)

    Skilled Worker (professions in demand WITH EXPERIENCE)

    Investors (larger amounts of money invested in Canadian business).

    Your age and language skills also have an influence.

    Check the web for Immigration Canada (better not listne to brookers who will give you bad advise for good money).

    Canada currently is accepting special skills and rich people to become their resident.
