How do you ask a guy if they are gong to the dance, but not asking them out?

i wanted to ask one of my friends if he is going to the dance. If i say "are you going to the dance?" it kind of sounds like im asking him.

What should i say?

Bring up the dance like, I heard the theme was ___

Or

I am wearing my new shirt to the dance, it's going to be so much fun!

He'll probably say something about him going to the dance or why he isn't

Just sound casual like hey I am going are you going?

"are you going to the dance" doesn't sound like you are asking him to go at all.

But if you are really picky on it, just ask "Who are you going to the dance with?" He could easily say he is not going or say who he is going with. Either way, this one can't be misinterpreted.

okay well start a conversation with him. then after be like well are you going to the dance? and see if he says yes or no.

Just ask him, if you like him then you should trust him to not make a big deal out of it.
