People ask for directions in many different ways. I'm trying to find out the most common ways people ask others and the most common ways the other people answer.

  1. diners..usually have some-one in there with a brain and a knowledge of his or her surrounding's

Pizza shops, stuck out many times,

sometimes gas stations, but not the people inside, I instead use the people that are getting gas...etc...

as far as that macho thing, about men do not ask for directions, well I do...after a min, if I am lost. cause then I make it to the party, and I am enjoying myself, while the others who refuse to ask, are driving around, and getting madder by the instant...

  2. Better dont hesitate seeking the help of auto driver's (I mean asking),street hawkers especially those near bus stops.

  3. I ask for directions by typing www.mapquest.com.  Then I open up Microsoft Streets and double check the directions given on mapquest.  Or I look in one of my atlases.  Otherwise I ask for directions politely and directly.  I am always suspect when someone uses "lefts" and "rights".  I want the directions expressed to the points of the compass.  North is always north, south is always south, and so on.  I have been given so many bad directions over the years that generally I do not trust other people to provide me with precise, clear directions.  I find a GPS to be very good tool for finding a destination.

  6. Just be straight forward. Ex..   Excuse me, I need directions to walmart. could you help me?

  8. I usually pull the car to the side of the street and ask someone if they know how to get to a certain location.

    OR

I go to a gas station and ask the clerk for directions.

But this is only when I don't have the navigation system in the car. lol.

  9. i don't ask...im a guy

  10. With all the tools available to a driver today, asking for directions should be a thing of the past...Rule #1 in driving is to know what the destination is; rule #2 is to know how to get there - before cranking the engine.

We only get off the beaten path on special occasions or events - vacation, theater, sightseeing, etc...If I know where I want to go, I can use computer maps like Google or MSN to actually see the roads I will travel...I can use paper maps to give a better overview of my intended route...I am not comfortable enough with GPS to trust it completely to guide me the way I want to go...Finally, I will call my destination before I leave to confirm the address, get cross streets or reference points...Then I will write this information on paper and study it a couple of times before the trip to make sure I understand the route...I will keep this paper keep it with me so I can refer to it as I reach specified check points...If this still gets me lost, I will pull off the road at a location I can specify (a gas station or corner) and call my destination and get their guidance.

    All the best.

ya this road leads to -------- place,
