  1. When I assemble my clarinet, I usually begin from the bottom going up. The first piece you will grab will be the bell. It is pretty  self explanatory on which piece that it, because it looks like a bell. Next, you will grab the second body piece, the larger piece with keys that has a cork on the bottom and a hole in the top part. You take the end with the cork and gently place it in the bell. To make it easier, be sure to apply cork grease to the cork first(it should be the in the tube that looks like a thing of lip gloss). The next piece you will grab is the other piece with all the keys with corks on both ends. If you look at it, there should be some sort of logo on the front, and that end will be facing up. You attach this to the other piece with the keys. Be sure though, the you place your fingers over the bottom 3 keys as you attach it. There should be two tiny silver things that should line up when you have placed the two pieces together. Next, you will take the barrel(which is cylindrical shaped) and place the cork that is left on what you have already assembled and place it on there. You will know if you have placed the barrel on upside down because either A) It will not go on or B) it is extremely loose.

Now, for the mouthpiece! Again, be sure to put cork grease on the cork, and place it into the top of the barrel. Now, take your reed (the piece of wood that you need to play) and stick it into your mouth. While you are letting your reed get wet, you should grab the metal thing that should have been near your mouthpiece. This is called a ligature. Place the ligature over the mouthpiece with the screws facing you and the side of the s***w that you twist towards the right. Now, gently take the reed, with the thicker part downward, and place it in-between the mouthpiece and the  ligature. Any writing that was on the reed (such as Vandoren, Rico, etc..) should be facing your mouth  peice. The thinner part of the reed should be on top and should fit perfectly against the mouthpiece. Since you are a beginner, you want to be able to see a tiny bit of black mouthpiece above the tip of the reed, but not too much.  Now, gently s***w the ligature tighter until it will not fall off. Be sure you do not tighten it too tight though, otherwise you will "choke" the reed.

Now, stick the mouthpiece into your mouth, l**k the reed, and be prepared to hear many many squeaks! Congrats on learning to play the clarinet!
