How do you attach a bicycle to the Bike Rack in front of buses?

I will be riding on the Metro Bus shortly to get to work from now on, and am planning on taking a bike to get to and from the destination and the bus stop.

I was wondering, how do you lock or put your bicycle on the rack?

Do you just put your bike on it, or is there a locking mechanism as well?

Or, can I bring my bicycle inside the bus?

  2. You cannot bring your bike inside the bus and unfortunately, sometimes the bike racks are full!  On Metro buses, most of the racks are 2-bike racks, but you just put your bike in the slots with the front wheel facing the little hook that pulls over the wheel.  Then, just pull the hook up over your front wheel until it's as close to the frame as possible.  It can be harder if you have fenders, but I'll push it up under my fender a little bit.  If you are the first bike to be on the rack, you'll have to pull down the rack using the silver-colored handle and you'll want to put your bike on the outside slot (furthest away from the bus).  I'm not sure why, exactly, but I got yelled at about it alot when I first started taking my bike on the bus, so I know the drill...

  3. It's really easy! I just started taking my bike on the bus and was a little nervous about attaching mine too.

         1) Walk to the front of the bus, pull down the rack

         2) sit bike on tray

         3) pull hook out and lock on front wheel

    - most will have instructions right on the rack

    - some drivers will let you put the bike on with you in the bus, but not if very crowded
