Question:

How do you attach notched wooden deck posts to sides of deck?

The deck is approximately 8x8. It is 4ft off the ground. In the middle of the joists is not a problem. The problem is with the corners. The two joists come together and are connected to the posts. The posts do not come up through the deck. I can't use bolts in the corners but could use lag screws. The only problem is that one of the screws would go into the ends of the joists. I was going to use notced posts but didn't know if there was some type of anchor that can be used to attach the wooden posts on top of the deck if I cut the notced part out.

I hear what your saying.  I don't follow all of it though.  Why don't you drive through your community and look at all the deck configurations.  I've got several in mind with 4x4's right now.  One is use the whole 4x4 and the other is cut the 4x4 in half and s***w it on to floor joist as one way of doing it.
