  1. everyone is correct but if you put rubbers in hot water for a few seconds first it makes rubber more flexible and they go on a bit easier

  2. Well, the rein stops just slied straight over the reins, it would vbe best to do it from the bit side, as the reins are smoot there. And I've only done a rubber donut on a standing martingale, so here goes.. I just undid the martingale chest piece, then slid it over one side and and the nose piece. You would just have to do it to both forks, i think.

  3. The thick rubber ring slides onto the neckstrap. Then you get a piece of balestring and thread it through (downwards) loop this through the metal ring and then back through the rubber. You get a friend to hold tight to the rubber ring and pull the balestring untill the metal ring pops through. repeat for the other one. Then you just have to slide things around to get them levelled up.

The rein stops don't actually go on the martingale - they go on the reins and will just slide on from the end if you have plain leather reins. If you have rubber reins it's easier to stretch them on from the bit end. Their job is to stop the metal rings of the martingale from becoming entangled in the bit or rein buckles so they go fairly close to the bit with the martingale rings behind them.

Here's a picture that shows the correct placement of martingale rings and rein stops.

  4. Slip the rein stops on to the reins by undoing the buckle end of the reins and slip them on.

The centre piece is a little more trick but unto the neck strap put both rings through first of all and bring the centre piece to where the virtical and neck strap/ breast strap cross and threat the non buckle end of the neck strap into te centre piece and pul through.  It should be on by then.

  5. the rings on the martingale go round the reins. make sure that they are blocked by rubber stoppers between them and the mouth also make sure that the martingale itself is round the rihght way!!

really hard to explain on here! if your at a livery yard or know people woh have horses ask them and they will help you! easy once u know how!! but they do get tanled bloody easiy!!

  6. soap up the reins with saddle soap.. unless they are the narrow english ones, it will help alot.. open the buckle end and slide the rubber stop down.  It make take some work to  get it over braiding if your reins are laced.  IF they gave you a rubber donut type thing to hold the cross of the martingale  between neck and  riser,  again use lots of saddle soap to sort of greese things up.  open the buckle on the neck strap.. work the non buckle end and the rings thru the donut.. useing twine to h**l pull them thru can make it simplier.. or a pair of needle nose pliers.
