How do you automatically turn off the tv when a recording finishes?

ok, so you know how on comcast dig cable you can record with the dvr and all that? and ive noticed that if the tv starts off and a recording starts and then eventually finishes the dvr will automatically turn off, but when the dvr is on and then a recording starts you have to keep the tv on til its done am i correct? i wanna know how to set it where it will automatically turn off after a recording no matter what cus i like recording late night stuff...

You should be able to turn off the TV while the DVR is recording.
