How do you avoid getting a shock from touching a lamp?

There is one lamp that always shocks me when I turn it off, can I do something to avoid it?

  1. Are you walking across a rug to get to the lamp?  If so, wait a second or two before you touch the lamp and see if that helps.  If you get a short shock when you touch the lamp, and then it doesn't shock you any more, it's probably just static electricity.  But if it shocks you as long as you touch it, or every time you touch it, there is probably a loose strand of wire at the switch that is touching the metal part of the lamp.  In that case, you need to unplug it and get it fixed, or get rid of it.


  2. Unplug it and throw it away.

  3. Your lamp has an electrical short.  Either get it fixed or throw it away.  Get it unplugged before it starts a fire.

  4. Have somebody else turn it off. Buy static gaurd at walmart.Then spray it on ur hands.
