  1. We backpacked round europe a few years ago. Get your self a good guide book, lonely planet or europe on a shoestring. Getting round is easy, you need to get your self a eurail pass - http://www.eurail.com/ - which allows to travel unlimited on second class rail. and european rail is pretty good, and goes everywhere. Get yourself a decent 70 litre backpack, and decide how you wanna sleep, if you can manage a small sleeping bag its prob a good idea, but a lot of hostels will provide linen. A few good hostels are wombats in Vienna, Circus in Berlin, and cant remember the name but it is famous or donut fights and its in the middle of prague.

travel light, but pack waterproofs, and something warm, its still europe!!!!!

As for getting there, depends where you are coming from, if you wnat to start in London, you can then get easily to Paris, Lyon or Brussels by eurostar and thats dead quick. and if they still do the same deal get cheap tickets with the eurail ticket.

we managed to get hold of a full european rail timetable complete with map which was real helpful.

If I think of anything else i'll let you know.

hope this is a good start for you.
