  1. No check register. It's always the same check(s) each month for the same thing(s). If there is an "extra", then it's duly noted in my daily notebook and that's that. No big monthly surprise, no mess.

  2. I use quicken and have my monthly expense set and it makes it easy to keep things in order

  3. Yes, I do.  I love it when it comes out exactly as the figure should be.  So far for 50 plus years it is a good way to see what is going on.

  4. Sure do!

  5. I haven't used my check register in a long time.  It is difficult to explain here how to balance your checking account.  Basically, you are checking to see if your balance and the bank's balance match.  Usually they don't because you have written checks that haven't cleared yet.  After you figure out what hasn't cleared, you add that all up and subtract it from the bank's balance - the result should match your balance.  If it doesn't you need to verify all the transactions to see if there is something you forgot to record or if there is some sort of error.

There should be instructions somewhere on your statement to help you do it.  I think the best thing to do is to call or visit your bank and ask them to explain it to you.  They will have your information in front of them and can be more helpful.

    Good luck.

  6. that's the only way to do it. If you don't keep all your receipts it can get out of hand. So sometimes I take out cash and just write that down instead of using the debit card all the time.
