How do you beat Ganon on zelda ocarina of time? (N64)?

Ok so I beat Ganondorf, escaped the crumbling castle, and died while trying to defeat Ganon (arrows all used up and so was magic and life even though I brought 3 bottled fairies i ended up using them all to fight Ganondorf.) I turned the game off (after saving) and turned it back on later. it made me re-fight Ganondorf (which for some reason now when i try to volley the lightning ball back at him it won't work and it just ends up killing me instead.) but once i do end up beating Ganondorf (if i can) and escape the crumbling castle (if i can) HOW DO I BEAT GANON?!?! (i've been trying forever and he's sooooo hard to beat...)

You are probably using the Big Goron Sword, what you need to do is switch to the Master Sword. That's the only way to finish the fight.

For the actual fight, you need to go around him and hit his tail, I used a hammer, you could also use the sword. You can stun him by shooting light arrows at his face and then attack his tail. Rinse and repeat. You can use the Big Goron Sword a few times, but to finalize the fight you need to use the Master Sword.

Light arrows between the eyes, then attack his tail. When you run out of magic. Get in close and look for any opportunity to dodge between his legs and smash the tail. Swing away like a mad-person. It's not pretty, but it works. (Use the master sword) Go for the head once you take him down.

You need to shoot Ganon with a light arrow, then circle around behind him and slash his tail (when your sword gets knocked out of your hand, use the Megaton Hammer or Biggoron's Sword). You should probably bring a green potion with you if you're having problems with magic.

However, for the first half of the battle, you can actually use Deku Nuts to stun Ganon! You'll have to be pretty quick in getting behind him to hit the tail, but you'll conserve magic this way. After a while, he'll start shielding his eyes and you'll have to use the Light Arrows.
