How do you beat someone in an essay contest that wins every year?

i am very passionate about writing and i always enter essay contests, poetry contests, etc. But every year, 2 of my friends win first or second place. If one is in 2nd place the other is in 1st place and vise versa. I've been told that i was a good writer ever since 1st grade. so how do i beat my friends!!! ; )

There is really no way to beat your friends if they are good writers. However, if you really want to win, pick better topics to write about or think out of the box, that may get you a high place.

Study their essays and their style of writing. Try to find the finesse they seem to have that has helped them. I often think though that the subject has a lot to do with how an essay is judged. Simple seems to go over better that controversial or complicated. I am sure though, that no matter where you stand now in these essay contests now; it will limit the great amount of success that is in store for you.

Try to be a counterpart of them! like they are the good guys you are the bad guys, but not literally, what I mean is try to search your previous works study all your works and try to figure out why you lose in that contest study you works and there works, then you will figure out somehow whats your need to win this time
