  1. You contact local law enforcement and see if there are any openings in dispatch.

If you are in California you can make yourself more marketable by taking the P.O.S.T. 9-1-1 dispatcher training and EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatcher) training.

I am one of the training supervisors at my county 9-1-1 center and we train from the start. We prefer rookies with no training so we can train them OUR way and not have to try and break any bad habits they may have.

Check your state office of personnel job listing on-line for job openings with state agencies.

Good luck, we need more trained dispatchers out here with us.

  2. Contact your local police or county sheriffs dept for the requirements of the job. Good Luck.

  3. You just apply at the Sheriffs Department. They usually train you or refer you to a school.

  4. You apply at the e911 center, police department, or sheriff's department. You get on the job training, and the employer will send you to specialized traditional/classroom training once hired.

  5. You apply at agencies that are hiring.

Any training you need will be provided by the agency that hires you.

  6. Call your city hall human resources department or your police department.   They will tell you how to apply.

Great Job. and great benefits too.
