How do you become a blue belt in bjj?

i have started to take brazilian jiu jitsu classes. and wanted to know how long and what i need to do to become a blue belt

  1. If it takes you less than 1.5 to 2 years (depending on how many class you take a week), then you are at a mcdojo. You get promoted when the instructor sees that you are ready and you begin defeating other blue belts.


  2. At the average school, with regular training, it will take between 1 to 2 years to go from white to blue

    Speaking personally, I started in November 2006 and received my blue in February 2008, after 131.5 hours of training. Promotions in BJJ are not standardised, so requirements vary, but one constant is success in sparring against those of your current level and the ability to hold your own against the level above. Competing will normally lead to quicker promotion.

    Concentrate on the basics, relaxing, and not worrying about who tapped who: in class, its learning, not 'winning' or 'losing'. The important thing is to develop technique and keep turning up to class on a consistent basis.

  3. You blow on a white belt till your face turns blue.
