  1. hi,

    check it out,

    good luck,

  2. First you need some good A-Levels (or equivalent);

    I suggest when picking your choice of A-Level subjects, you play to your strengths as Law degrees (depending on which university you choose) usually demand high A-Level grades. If you go to a 'red brick' university they usually ask for AAA, AAB or ABB. Post 1992 Universities (former polytechnics) ask for BBB or BBC (like Leeds Met, London Met, Manchester Met etc)

    Have a look at some university prospectuses. They state the requirement of grades using a UCAS point system, i.e. BBB is 300 (A = 120 points, B = 100, C = 80 ) You can obtain this from the UCAS website.

    Good A-Level subjects are English, Business Studies for example. You can take Law at A-Level if you want but this NOT a prerequisite.

    I have not heard of any university who want certain A-Level choices. However considering you’re going to study quite an academic subject then try to go for a mixture of academic A-Levels and maybe one 'creative' subject i.e. Music, Art or Drama if you have to at all.

    I studied Business Studies, Economics and Law. My friends on the LLB course studied such subjects as Science, Psychology, English Lit or Lang. So you can see a pattern emerging.

    Further ahead heres what you're going to need for a career in Law;

    There are three paths to becoming a solicitor.

    1) You must have a 2:1 qualifying law degree that means a LLB (Hons) usually 3 years full time. You then must do an LPC (Legal Practise Course) for 1 year. Then gain a training contract (r. r. hard) from a solicitors' firm which lasts for 2 years.

    2) Do a degree in any discipline i.e. History. Then you MUST do a conversion course for a year, this is called a Graduate Diploma in Law. Finally then you must do an LPC for a year. Then gain a training contract (r. r. hard) from a solicitor firm) which lasts for two years.

    3) The legal executive route. Where you don't necessarily need to do a law degree, instead you spend 4 years doing the ILEX course.

    You need a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) to go straight onto the LPC. Otherwise you must take the Grad Dip if your first degree is non law.

    If you want become a Barrister you study the BVC (Bar Vocational Course) instead of the LPC. After which you undertake pupilage which lasts for 2 years upon completion you may be called to the Bar.

    If you study a degree other then a LLB then you will need to do the Graduate Diploma in Law. This will convert the B.A. or BEng or Bsc into a Qualifying Law degree after which you may enter onto the LPC or BVC and thus proceed to become a solicitor or Barrister respectivley.
