How do you become a college/university biology professor?

  1. While every  college/university is different, I know that UCLA wants the professor to have a doctorates as well as field experience with a history of published work.

    Even after being hired to teach, the professors are still required to continue researching and publishing. Most top universities want professors who are active in the field they teach. They should be researching, writing, and publishing all the while teaching their courses.


  2. Each state is a little different. And most universities require a PHD. I would probably go for Secondary Science Education for undergrad, either science or education for masters, then get your doctorates degree.

  3. Usually you get your undergrad degree in biology or a related area, get your PhD in Biology, and then receive a research + teaching appointment at a university/college. Most biology professors at colleges and universities will be either PhDs or graduate students currently working on their PhD.

  4. Speak to the University counslers, they will direct you in the right path
