  1. get a masters degree, almost all commercial flight company will hire you as a rookie pilot and train you with salary.

  2. here's how it works

    1. you can go to either an aviation college/University or move through the ranks on your own you will start in airplanes like this

    http://www.hartzellprop.com/top_prop/ima...

that retail anywhere from 100k-500k on average and cost 100-150 an hour for rental you recieve a Private Pilots liscence

    2. get the Instrument rating allowing you to fly "Inside the cockpit" no reference to outside/the Ground

    3. get a MEL (Multi Engine Liscence) flying airplanes like

    http://www.swtaviation.com/bigpics/BCB58...

that retail anywhere from 400k to a million or so.

4 Build time, lots of time and once you have 250 hours get your Commercial Pilots liscence this will allow you to fly people for money legally

5 become a CFI (certified Flight instructor) or pay your way to build hours

6 get a Valid passport if you don't have one already as well as an FCC Radio operators liscence

6 Send your resume to EVERY freaking Regional that might want you and hope for the best

    7. take the phone interview, then go to the in-person interview where they will do a "Simple" oral check logs, ask questions etc. if you pass this part they will likely either A. Hire you. or B. tell you to come with them to their Training facility for a "Test" flight in witch they expect you to complete some flying tasks like holding patterns Takeoffs and Landings in one of their Simulators

you'll start off likely in a light Turboprop or Regional jet making c**p money in a city THEY told you to move to with all the worse Shifts because you're at the bottom of the food chain

my friend has 235 hours and was hired with Mesa Air Group flying a CRJ 200/700 like this

    http://www.smartcockpit.com/site/plane/b...

    good luck

    Regarding the post below mine

you can expect to pay 50-70,000 for the entire thing that's an 75-100 is an over estimate

All airline pilots do not have a 2 year college degree and many airlines are picking up anyone they can get right now. Mesa Air group has its instructors flying the line instead of teaching because they're so short handed hire rate from flightcareers is 100%

many airlines will also hire Second officers who just came fresh from the regionals to fly their 747's. but second officer isn't a fun job, it's monitoring systems while the other 2 pilots sleep

  3. go to aviation school or the military and learn to fly. when you finish with either you can fly smaller crafts for the private industry and work your way up the ladder with respect to the size of jet you fly. as far as picking which plane, you fly what you are qualified for. embry-riddle is a popular flight school to learn.

    good luck

  4. You start in the crappy older air craft and over many years of proving you're self and time and ratings building you can get to the left seat of some pretty sweet aircraft, but you will have to pay you're dues.

  5. Aviophage has it pretty well dead on.

As for what equipment you fly, it's all about seniority. In general, the larger the aircraft, the better the pay, and senior pilots get their pick first.

As a junior pilot, you'll fly the smaller equipment for less pay. As you build seniority, you'll be able to "bid" to fly larger, better paying planes.

  6. There is a big difference between being a commercial pilot and being an airline pilot flying a heavy airplane like a 747.  Apparently you are interested in an airline career.

The best way is to go into the military; military pilots have the easiest time getting hired by the major airlines.  You can visit the recruiters any time after about your 16th birthday, and get their recommendations as to what school to go to, what degree to secure, and what ROTC program to go into.

That way, you will get your college degree and your military commission, and, if you qualify, you will go into pilot training.  The Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps train pilots.  The Army offers only helicopter training.  See your recruiter for the details.

If you want to be an airline pilot but don't want to go through the military, you can expect to spend $75,000 to $80,000 over a period of 15 years or so on pilot training.  You will earn some of this by instructing and doing charter or cargo flying.

Remember that ALL airline pilots nowadays have at least a 2-year college degree, and most have a 4-year degree.  A college education is essential, and you won't get a job without one.

So go to a flight school or the local airport and get your commercial certificate with multi-engine, instrument, and instructor ratings.  Then do your instructing and charter flying for 5-10 years.  One shortcut is to start applying to air cargo carriers.  They sometimes hire people with only a few hundred hours and you get some hours in heavy aircraft, which looks good on your logbook when you start applying for airline jobs.

It's hard work and only one in 80 or so of the people who set out to be a 747 jockey reach that seat.  But if you are dedicated and talented, you can make it.

As to what airplane you will fly, don't worry about it.  The airplane that is popular today will be phasing out by the time you get there, and the choices will be completely different.  You usually don't get to choose, though; the company puts you where they need you.

    Good luck!

  7. HI! I would suggest you to opt for an avation school which would take nearly 6-8 months. After which you would get a CPL.After completing min 200 hours of flying you will become a pilot and obtain a PPL[private pilots liscence].

Choosing a plane is quite difficult as it depends upon the airliner, your qualification, experience and smartness.About 90% pilots who work for international basis get a Boeing 747 or if luck comes your way u may get a Boeing 777. Bye!
