How do you become a commercial pilot by going through the military?

I have heard that you can become a commercial pilot by going through the military. I wanted to know what licences and ratings you can get and how much flight hours you will end up with at the end? and how long is the whole program?

If you are in the United States, the military has STRINGENT requirements for pilots.  And you have to give the military a 10 year commitment.  Check out the Air Force websites for more info.  If you want an easier route, many universities (University of North Dakota comes to mind) offer Pilot Training for commercial craft.  Hope this helps!
