How do you become a crew member in a Chicago Production i.e. the Dark Knight?

To be more specific, I was wondering if it was possible to be a grip or AP for a major production in Chicago without being in a guild. Are there any guilds in Chicago that I would have to belong to? I have a Bachelor's degree in video production, so I have experience. The people that work on productions in Chicago are locals correct?

They aren't always locals. You just need to keep an eye out for a job interview. Or ring the company up and see if they have any positions available.

And you would be extremely lucky to just get a job on a A list movie like the dark knight when are just out of college.

Having a degree does NOT count as experience.
