  1. To become a criminologist you will have to gain your undergraduate degree in a social science subject, such as sociology or psychology. Obtain a masters degree in a behavioural science, again like sociology, psychology or criminology. Then take a PhD in criminology.

    Criminologists can either work within a university department conducting academic research into crime and criminality, or they can work with law enforcement agencies. They write reports, books, journal articles and newspaper stories and editorials, so yes, they can, and do, write editorials on subjects like the death penalty.
