  1. You need to get a license first.

there are classes and books that you have to read. After the classes you register for exam in special location from that institute you are studying. The exam is on the computer with multi choice answer with a limited time. After passing the text you will receive your passing grade and then you will send it to the insurance agency of the state for your license

Also you have to have one person responser from an agency. this is the only way you get a license.

  2. That is a very simple question.  Yellow pages will give you several names of those insurance people call them and ask to make an appointment to visit about insurance.  Take a small recorder or take a lot of notes.  Be honest with them and yourself.  Ask the right questions and LISTEN, LISTEN, Listen. then study, study, study.

  3. I'm not sure if you currently work in insurance but just to point out an AGENT is different than a LICENSED SALES PRODUCER (someone who sells insurance for the company and receives a lower commission but does not have the title of AGENT)

I'm a licensed sales producer for Allstate and I applied as a receptionist. After I'd worked a few months, my agent ordered the study materials to get my producer's license while I got on the job training for it.

Therefore, me and several of my coworkers were hired BEFORE we were even licensed so you can get a job and depending on the agency they will prepare you for the test and help train you if you haven't taken it yet.

Also, when you become an AGENT you can become and Exclusive Agent (meaning you only work for a specific company, which I believe may be better long term) or an Independent Agent (meaning you can work for several different companies) As a Licensed Sales Producer you are certified to write policies for any company in the state your licensed is approved for.

Best of Luck! I hope I wasn't too far away from your question.

  4. Jaime Rose is right, and after sending the license to the state you have to wait to be appointed by the state and then by the insurance company you have interviewed with.

Basically you should call them and ask for a position as an agent and let them know you're licensed and appointed. I am an agent too and I get tons of calls form companies that are looking for agents, you just get licensed and appointed and leave the rest to public records provided by the insurance department. Except you're particular about the big names you mentioned, there lots of good companies looking for agents.

I hope this is helpful and if you just want to work for a good insurance company you can email me and I can set up an interview for with my company.

  5. Interview with the company and get hired.  Look on Monster or hire job sites...or call them...
