Question:

How do you become a non-Nats Air Traffic Controller?

I am aware that training would probably be self-funded and that it is expensive, but how do I go about ensuring it's money well spent? ie. that I have a job at the end of it?

I would consider working at any UK airport and would like civilian rather than military control. What steps should I take and who should I speak to?

Any genuine help would be great.

  1. Best bet would be to ask around the PPRuNe ATC section, they will probably know more;

  2. Not trying to waste answer space here, but usually networking and job ops are done through the institution you are getting instruction from.

    My experience here in the states is that it is not difficult at all to find an ATC job..even the local airport by me pays approx. $90/yr starting and they had a ton of openings.

    Turnover is high. I think you have a fairly good shot. Sorry I can't point you anywhere specific in the good ol' UK.
