Question:

How do you become a part of the missing persons unit?

i have been trying to look online but everything has lead to a dead end. i'm looking for a job in the missing persons unit if possible....if it could focus on kids more than adults that would be good but i'm not sure if that's possible. Can anyone help me out?

You have to be a police officer first and interview for the position upon eligiblity in the department you would work for.  In my dept, Missing Persons are investigated by our Family Crime Unit (so you also investigate any crime that involves family members).  Doesn't mean they are family crime related, that's just the unit that is in charge of the investigations.  You can't pick and choose who you investigate as a missing person.  If you are interested in only missing kids, maybe you can talk to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, although you wouldn't actually investigate the missing reports.  You would be working on leads and giving them to the police depts.
