  1. Start off with the following websites:

    www.aopa.org/learntofly/

    They will give you a lot of info.

    Try calling around to some local airports and see if they have Fixed Base Operators (FBO'S) that offer flight lessons. Also see if there are any flying clubs that own their own trainer aircraft at those airports. Clubs will generally save you a few bucks over an FBO.

    Plan on spending around $7000-9000 right now for a private pilot's certificate. That will be approx 60 hours of training, ground school, flight physical, written exam, and checkride.


  2. Take lessons at a small airport. You need 40 hours (10 solo hours) to get your license but the national average is about 65 hours. You will do aerial training and ground training then must pass the exams. You also need a physical by an FAA approved physician.

  3. Go to you local small air port. Ask the same question. They would love to help you out. Pilots encourage others to get there pilots license. A friend was paying 45 per lesson. Would have taken 12 lessons plus the cost of the exam.
