  1. learn golf

  2. play golf. Lots of it.

  3. practise practise practise practise practise and when you have done that practise some more.

  4. Follow another golfer!

  5. These days you will have to be playing off better than +5 handicap to even consider turning pro to play on the tour, (which you have to qualify for too).

If you want to be a shopkeeper like the "professional" that we have then I think the PGA will consider you off 4.  I understand that our "pro" was off 5 when he turned, so basically he is c**p - I wouldn't even consider going to him for a lesson.

It's a big gamble - always wise to get yourself a back-up/alternative occupation to fall back to.

My mate is a great golfer, turned pro when he was a kid and continued to be good but couldn't get a post with a club.  Sure he was taken on as a lacky assistant but his golf went down the toilet because he spent more time behind the counter than he did playing and practicing.

He kept his professional status for a while, whilst taking employment at various organisations, (namely the gas board, and Toyota), but had to give it up in the end - he is now an amateur again, (after a long wait imposed by the R&A), and has joined the West Midlands Police!

    So think very carefully!

  6. Tons of practice and it helps if you've already got a bit of money. Golf is a tough game. Or do you mean you are already good enough to turn pro but are wondering how to?

  7. Natural ability, skill, dedication and it is always useful to have some cash in reserve for training to be a pro. is a long and arduous road.

  8. Hi!

You get your Dad to buy you a set of golf clubs before you can walk.

Then you join the Juniors section at your local golf club.

Then you proceed to the Seniors, play off scratch and enter loadsa amateur competitions, win them, then take advice on whether or not to go professional!
