How do you become a professional sushi chef?

I'm in California, and so far the best way I know is going to these 2 sushi schools in Los Angeles:

www.sushi-academy.com

www.sushischool.net

Is there a better school in California?

Thanks in advance. Any advice from sushi chefs or any chefs would be great!

  1. Going to a sushi school would be good so you have theory and you have an idea of what to do when you enter into an apprenticeship.

People outside of Japan have a waaaaay easier time becoming a sushi chef.  It really does NOT take 8 to 10 years to become a good sushi chef, but that is usually the amount of time it takes to become a sushi chef in Japan.

If you attend the sushi academy in Japan, you would be able to say you learned from a master sushi chef in JAPAN!

But it is said somewhere, that this field is starting to become a bit more realistic and reducing the time it takes to become a good sushi chef.

    Good luck.
