  1. Im 15, and i just this week bought my own horse, and this is the path me and my gelding are headed towards.  you have to work hard. Maybe you could lease a jumper at a local stable? And then when you show your parents your respnosible and can pay for it, maybe theyll change their mind. Its not so much a breed that specifically good at jumping, its  more their confirmation and drive to jump. If a horse is a big fancy bred horse, but doesnt like jumping, it doesnt do you any good. I think that TB, TB crosses, or Warmbloods are a good choice, some QH, but again, it all depends on the horse.

  2. first of all you are gonna need a horse, this doesnt neccessarily mean buying one though...see if you can start by part loaning or just exersising someones for them, then start taking it to local show and gain experience carry on having lessons. you will need to register with bsja to go to the big shows, to be a top showjumpeer you need a grade A showjumper (check out the bsja site) which is going to be difficult. i reccommend either getting a job t a groom at like a showjumping yard or else you will need to be very rich or be spotted!! none of that made much sense i kno but i know what i mean!!

  3. Years of experience?

    Practice?

  4. Its a very hard journey and you have to extremely good to actually make it as a professional and make enough money to live off from showjumping.

Have you competed?  If not then that needs to be your frst move, get yourself out competing.   If you do not have your own horse you need to lease or find good horses that need riders.  Ideally, you need one decent horse and be able to ride it exceptionally well to get other people's interest in you at least to get you other rides.  This would either need to be a lease horse or your owner.  Until you are very good most people will actually want to compete their own horses so it is very hard to break into it.

If you and the horse(s) you ride are good enough you will then need to move into affiliated classes.  To do so you and your horse have to join the BSJA and obviously need transport to get to the various competitions.  It is now starting to get more expensive to compete with membership, entries, transport, etc.  Then you have to work your way up the ranks.

As for breeds, any breed can jump but Grade A jumpers tend to be TBs, Hanoverians, Holstiens, Trackeners and various other Warmbloods.

  5. you could take lessons at a good jumping barn/ stables, and help out there for free lessons etc. You could also get a placement as a working pupil at a showjumping yard, where you will get good experience and maybe be allowed to jump some of their horses. If you have a friend with their own horse you could jump that at a few shows. To get to the top it takes many years of continous training, mental abitlity, strength, courage, patience and money. My dad had been to the top and loved it, but he worked very hard to get there, and he competed his own horses!!! Once you have been noticed, get out there and show the world what you can do. Dont let anything get in your way and fight for what you believe in. Good luck!

  6. Most professional riders do not own their own horses. I would find a really high leveled jumping barn and take lessons there, and get noticed. As soon as someone pays you to ride their horse in a show, congrats you are a pro rider (that's what professional means) :)

  7. thoroughbreds are good for showjumping because their breed is very fast.

just keep practising jumping, and try different horses because then you can pick up from your mistakes.

  8. JUMP

  9. Your best chance is to get some stable and equine management qualifications and seek out work at some decent yards.

As your experience improves you can get work at better yards, and become a groom and an exercise rider.

This is really the only way to start, by training under a well known rider. It's a LONG, HARD road ahead of you but you must go out there and get it if that is what you want!!!

    Good Luck!!

  10. i know this because i know a professional show jumper. You have to be very good at jumping and probably own your own horse . First enter small competitions and then you will get experience for bigger ones.

  11. seriously! it takes a long time , literally theres about 10 top showjumpers in the world and about 10 million+ wanting to reach that target, first find the perfect jumper! under around 8 years old i would say . nothing older as they wont get you very far, you need something fresh! start going up and up and up in competitions . jump very high courses & get your name recognised when people say it!

enter as many competitions as possible and work your way to the top!

  12. Make up your own money for the horse. Start signing up for shows then get into something more serious.

  13. Hard work and shows!

  14. 1. hire a good trainer.

2.time,engery,practice, and tons more of time.

    3. good horse (also good bank account to take care of horse)

    4. any breed is good for show jumping, it depends on the horse, true some are more common, but it truely depends on the horse, look for jumper adds, not breed adds.

    5. confindence. skills. setting goals.  anyone can say they want to show jump, but how far do you want to go? what levels and at what age/time frame do you want to reach those goals? be realistic as well as positive.

there is many things you can do, and i'm sure most the other suggestions will help as well. these are just how i'd do it/what i think.

  15. Well to become world class you need alot of money. and an amazing horse.

it also takes real dedication. you have to work your way to the top by jumping at local shows and progressivly going to bigger shows. its a hard sport to get big in as so many people want to be showjumpers so dont be disapointed if something didnt turn out right.

I Personally think that irish sport horses are the best jumpers. Normally horses are big as in over 16hh but the smallest horse to be on an Olympic team was 14.1hh

but typically a warmblood or thouroghbred type is best.

    hope this helps xx
