How do you become a "top contributor"?

At least 10% of your best answers have to be in the same category.

In order to be a top contributor you need to

- have 10% best answer or higher

- earn 150+ points a week

- answer most of your questions in the category you want to be top contributor in

- vote for yourself when question goes into voting, which legal.

- give good answers and give sources.

- be level 3 or higher

In order for you to keep your badge you need to get 200+ points every week. Top Contributor badges appear or disappear magically.

Oh and they don't give Top Contributor badges out in Polls & Surveys.

You can get a badge at any level from 2 on up (I've seen a few people do it). And they also don't give the badge in 'Jokes&Riddles'.
