  1. Join the Rosicrucians.  They have a lovely museum of mostly authentic Egypt stuff in San Jose.  The downside is that you have to take their classes in ESP and stuff, but you do get invited to some cool events.

OTOH if you want a Ph.D. in Egyptology you need to find a pretty specialized department somewhere, maybe the U.K. or Egypt.  But have you considered that Egyptology doesn't pay all that well?

  2. Why would you ever want to?  That field is saturated.  I suggest the Ancient Maya - there is relativley new GPS technology that is unearthing tomb after tomb.  Very interesting stuff.  If I didn't have a family, I would be down there digging in the dirt.

  3. An awful lot of study I would think.

  4. To become an Egyptologist in the United States, you should consider a major in anthropology or history, or in the classics for your undergraduate degree.  It is very advisable to study French or German as well, because those languages will become essential when you study Egyptology on the graduate school level.

There are only about three universities in the United States that offer Egyptology as a phD degree, and these are the University of Chicago, University of California at Berkeley, and University of Pennsylvania.

You will need to learn to read Egyptian hieroglyphs, be fluent in either French or German, and you must study and present a thesis or dissertation of something that has not been studied or presented before.

  5. Study Egyptian scripts, toombs, mummies, pyramids, place names, sand, wildlife, culture, government, and one day you will know enough to be considered an expert!

    You are on your way!
