1. I guess you just really need to tell them that being an actress is what you want to do, they usually understand - I've got the same problem, but parents come around if they realize you really wanna do it.

  2. I'm a 4.0 student, and an actress in school and outside of school productions. It's possible to balance both! I don't know if you are still in Highschool or college or whatever so it's hard to give direct advice. Acting as an extracurricular activity is great and so much fun, and no matter what age you are, 16 or 50, there are opportunitys for you in stage theater. As a career its a lot more demanding, not very easy to support yourself on and also the fun that you may get from it may diminish from overworking.

To make it big in the acting career it's not always enough to be smart and want it bad. Sheer natural talent has a huge say in matters whether we want it to or not. So if you don't have incredible talent, it's going to be hard to put the bread on the table from acting.

If you are in Highschool, your parents do have influence over you, but there comes a point where they must understand that it's your life and you can make your own choices. You still have time to decide if acting is really what you want to do in life so don't push away all other ideas just yet.

If you are in college then the choice is more present. Seeing as most likely your parents are paying for your tuition, they still do have some influence and say in the matter. But same as the above comment, in the end, its your choice and I am sure they will understand in the end.

    Good luck on your choices!

  3. you can always do your premed training in college and take theatre coursework as well. you could double major. if you can balance studying both, do it. have fun. once you are done with undergrad, you will be out from under their influence and have the option of either if you dual major. if they still hold sway (like, they'll pay if you do medical school), go to a large school that has graduate programmes in both medicine and theatre.

if you are determined to act, you will find a way to do both, but you do need to both state and demonstrate your passions to your family- find a way to strike a compromise, if possible, such as the above or you finding a school for premed studies that is near a thriving local community theatre.

    best of luck!

  4. If your parents don't want you to be an actress, it's probably because they want something better for you. It's tough when you want to become a professional actress. You don't always have a job, and paying bills is rough. It's not all sparkle and glamour. That being said, if it's your passion, that's what you need to try to do. However, don't ONLY do that. Go to college first and major in theatre. But pick a good minor that actually uses your intelligence and potential. Minor in business or teaching or something along those lines. You can always fall back on that if you need to. Remember, your parents are just trying to get the best for you, but if you don't want to be a doctor, and really want to be an actress, they have to understand that you control your own life when it comes to professions. Show them that you are responsible by suggesting the minoring plan that I outlined earlier. Good luck with your acting, and hope this helps!
