How do you become or try out to be a radio DJ?

I think I have the skills to be a great radio DJ or host. How do I go about doing this?

Let me know when you find out. I always thought that would be an awesome job. I even job shadowed at a local radio station when I was younger. It was soooo much fun!!

Call the station and volunteer for ANYTHING at anytime! If your in college you could always intern.

But you have to get your foot in the door and be willing to do anything, show interest in all aspects of the business, and the PD or station manager will take notice.

Then if the need should arise for "On Air Talent" due to an illness or other circumstance when a DJ can't make it to the station the PD just might ask you to fill in. He or She is going to look for someone they know and trust.

Trust me that's how I started in this crazy business, it's a lot of fun (mostly) but be prepared to move from your hometown if the opportunity should arise!

Call a radio station and ask if you can sit in and watch a shift. Show alot of interest, and eventually they'll put you behind the wheel. You may have to work for free for a while, but that's how you break in. You could also go to a broadcasting school too, but I think that's a waste of time.

Best way is to get an internship at a local station.  Also, work at your local college radio station.

make a demo cd and mail it to numerous radio stations and hope that the program director likes what he hears and calls u. or u can go the route i did by getting an internship at a station and getting hired, networking with the people there then pitch ur show to the program director and give him ur demo in person and then pray he listens and likes it. radio is difficult to get in to. u need to have a real drive for it and be very agressive in order to succed
