  1. all a split jump is is half flip while your legs split.  try doing it where you can see your reflection in the glass, that makes it more fun and you can see how you are doing.

  2. I learned it strait away. what split jump are you talking about. the Russian split jump or just a basic split jump. to start learning you learn a half flip after that you should practice leaping off ice. when you do the jump you want to keep both legs strait and leap into to the splits of your to pick. try to keep your leg strait

For a Russian split you don't have to be able to do a perfect straddle split but it looks better if you can.

    Steps to Russian Split:

      1. off ice do a lot of stretching

      2. try to jump into the split office

      3. after you get used to the motion off ice try it from a half flip take off

I would not recommend doing the Russian split unsupervised because as a skater you should know that injury is impossible to escape. you must do the the split and bring you legs together before you hit the ice or you with feel extreme discomfort for many days. not pleasant at all. get a coach to teach you how to do the jump but the off ice things you can do on your own. if you don't already stretch ever day you should now start. good luck with your skating and remember to have fun

  3. It's not a high level jump. If you can do a half flip, yo can start to learn the Split. The problem though is if you're blessed or not with the right hips. If you're like me and you suck at the eagle, the split is the hardest figure ever. I can only do the Stag jump (and quite frankly the feeling of a full stag with your foot in the air is the creepiest feeling ever, not to mention you land this figure going forwards with a flat blade, ouch!).

Try doing the jump on a trampoline because sadly there isn't other figures in the sport that can aid you that much in learning how to do Stags and Splits.
